Parish Pastoral Council

Our Parish Pastoral Council is divided into two separate units. Parish Pastoral Council #1 responds to short term pastoral needs of the community, the care and maintenance of properties and buildings and to financial matters identified by the Financial Council. Parish Pastoral Council #2, now known as the “Pastoral Renewal Group” , discerns and discusses the long term pastoral needs of the parish in light of the Forward In Faith document issued by the Archdiocese of Halifax in January 2004. This document identified three important areas that are at the heart of every parish community. These are: Liturgy and Worship, Evangelization, and Justice and Charity. The Pastoral Renewal Group is determining how Holy Family Parish will respond to these important elements of parish life in the long term.

Our Parish Pastoral Councils are consultative bodies that meet regularly throughout the pastoral year. Our structure evolved as the result of a recent diocesan workshop on Pastoral Councils held in the Archdiocese of Halifax. This presentation showed the evolution of parish pastoral councils from the period of Vatican II to the present day. It is hoped this formation and subsequent structure will give improved understanding of the role of parish pastoral council in the life of the parish.
