Holy Family Church and complex has opened. A beautiful ceremony conducted by Archbishop Mancini officially dedicated the church today. The ceremony was simply beautiful - full of song and scripture, rites and prayers. In the coming days photos and video will be posted here on the web-site.

While we took a short break from posting construction pictures to acknowledge and celebrate our last Easter in the St Charles facility, work continued on the new facility. This week the Masonary work got underway and of course lots of work is going on behind the walls!

On Sunday the construction zone was opened to all for a chance to come see the progress and to leave a written note on walls before the insulation and dry are installed. If you missed it - there are a few pictures posted in our on-line bulletin -- check them out.

Mid-March - the time has already moved ahead an hour, snow is melting and a glorious week of sunshine and warm weather has just past and another about to begin! Spring must be near! Best of all, our Sanctuary has a cover over it and Windows reflecting sunlight. A few photos have been added from March 13th.

January 30th was another sunny but cold Saturday afternoon at the construction site. There are seven new photos to check out on Flickr or our Bulletin page this week. Some of the windows were installed this week, along with roof work and additions to the steel in the sanctuary.

January 23rd was a sunny but cold Saturday afternoon around the construction site. There are three new photos to check out on Flickr or our Bulletin page this week. The temporary doors were installed this week and work continues on the outside. Framing is also well underway inside.

Photos from the first week of January 2010. Work on the roof framing is well under-way. As well, Father Driscoll reports that the contract has been given to place aluminium shingles on the church roof. Look for those photos in the near future.

The concrete floor was poured early in the week. Floodlights were also installed (easily turning night into day) and the task was done very quickly. Later in the week, some of the earth around the foundation was leveled and the orange fencing was erected again. The lights and most of the earth-moving equipment moved out as well.

The base continues to be readied for the concrete floor and the steel frame arrived and was assembled.

Last week the remaining foundation walls were uncovered. By Friday, backfilling was well underway. A drive by yesterday revealed a LARGE hole, recently filled crossing Prince Arthur Street and more backfill. More concrete arrived, and large piles of stones and gravel sat in the midst of the walls.

And the Ground Trembled

We have begun construction of our new parish facility! The excavation is completed. Many loads of rock and fill were brought to level and stabilize the site in preparation for building the cement walls for the foundation. This will be the next step and should begin in the coming week.

As the Sod Turned
August 31, 2009
The official sod turning ceremony was held on Monday August 31-2009. Following a brief service in the church, Father Driscoll led the way to the adjacent construction site and future home of the new Holy Family Parish complex. Father Driscoll and Dr. White performed the ceremonial sod-turning in front of parishioners, press and local dignitaries.

TENDERS HAVE BEEN ISSUED

In another major step in our journey to construction of a new Parish facility, tenders for the different parts of the construction have been sent out and some have been returned. This is the stage where numbers are very important and so we pray that the responses to the call will be manageable. News will be shared as soon as decisions are made.
Open House to View Final drawings

This Wednesday,June 3rd at the Knights of Columbus Community Centre, from 3:00 to 7:00pm, the Building Committee invites you to come and view the final drawings for our new Parish facility. The presentation will include a virtual walk-through display of the architect’s conception of the worship area, parish offices and parish hall. Derek Brennan, our project manager, will be present as well as other members of the Building Committee to assist throughout the afternoon and answer questions. Refreshments will be available.
